Acoustic Source Localization & Vehicle Tracking

Investigates how multi-channel microphone arrays "see" sound in 3D space. Uses an 8-channel circular microphone array (miniDSP UMA-8) and Steered Response Power with Phase Transform (SRP-PHAT) beamforming algorithms to passively track moving vehicles in outdoor Finnish road traffic. Includes mathematical formulation, array geometry, field experimental data, and video demonstrations.

3D Spatial Audio & Sound Synthesis in Csound

An extensive project exploring spatial acoustics, digital sound synthesis opcodes, Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTF), binaural panning, and virtual room acoustic reflections using Csound. Documented in full detail with code examples, instrument orchestra (.orc) and score (.sco) definitions, and audio demonstrations.

Spatial Acoustics: From Synthesis to Sensing

These two projects represent complementary halves of spatial acoustic engineering: Csound focuses on acoustic emission and spatial synthesis (placing synthetic sound at arbitrary 3D coordinates using HRTF and binaural cues), whereas Acoustic Source Localization focuses on acoustic reception and spatial sensing (analyzing incoming wavefront phase differences across a microphone array to estimate the physical coordinates of radiating objects).
